Portland Cocktail Week

Portland Cocktail Week

Founded in 2009 as a week-long educational event, Portland cocktail week provides bartenders with the tools they need to take the next step in their careers through classes, networking, and guided experiences. The first bartending conference to focus on the “business of the bar.” Portland Cocktail Week is free of charge for bartenders. Applicants are selected based on the quality of their essays, geography, gender, and racial equity.

Our mission is to democratize tactical bar education. Portland Cocktail Week has become the industry leader in helping bartenders close the gap between where they are and where they want to be in their careers. In addition to the invaluable educational sessions, Portland Cocktail Week works with our brand partners to create one of a kind immersive experiences and networking opportunities to reach bartenders all over the country.

Building on the success of our PDXCW Distance Learning channel, Portland Cocktail Week will continue to offer digital programming in 2022, while adding in person programming in November. Portland Cocktail Week was designed to democratize hospitality education, and our virtual efforts did exactly that. Bartenders are now more able to access our industry-leading content anytime, anywhere, and always at no cost.

Continuing to offer access to these free, virtual resources alongside in-person programming is another step toward eliminating financial barriers for any bartender who wants to further their career while giving those who are able to make the trek to Portland the opportunity to connect with their peers and our brand partners through in-person workshops and events. This new, hybrid model for Portland Cocktail Week will debut in November 2022 in Portland, Oregon.

Tiki Oasis 2022 – Trip to the Tropics

August 3 – 7, 2022

Town and Country Resort, San Diego

WELCOME TO TIKI OASIS 2022!

This year Tiki Oasis celebrates the Caribbean Islands and their influence on Tiki subculture with “Trip to the Tropics”. When we think of Tiki style we think of Polynesia, but the influence of the Caribbean — from its tropical flavors, rum, dance and Mid-Century upbeat music — has also shaped the Polynesian Pop scene we know today.

Tiki Oasis will take a deep dive into the flavors of the Caribbean from our educational seminars to our cocktail tastings. Agriculture from the Bahamas to Trinidad includes sugarcane, bananas, coffee, tobacco, citrus and cacao. These flavors influenced the creation of classic tropical cocktails from the Puerto Rican Piña Colada, Panama’s Bird of Paradise Fizz, and the Jamaican Planter’s Punch, all of which influenced what we now call “Tiki Drinks.”

Tiki Oasis will also celebrate the music and dance of the region. The original Afro-Caribbean music of Trinidad known as Calypso is authentic island music and was an early influence on Jamaican Rocksteady, Ska, and early Reggae. The dance styles are often described as fluid, sensual, and rhythmic. Popular vibrant dances included the mambo, rumba, and merengue that borrow and riff from the mixing of African, European, and indigenous cultures.

As always, Tiki Oasis is all about the Tiki lifestyle, and every year we explore a theme that adds dimension or expands on a different aspect of popular culture tangential to the subculture of Tiki. This year’s “Trip to the Tropics” will carry you to the Caribbean via educational seminars, literature, movies, and entertainment from live bands, dancers, and disc jockeys. While we encourage you to express your love for the theme in fanciful dress, we just ask that you please be mindful not to appropriate other cultures when doing so.

THE CORE VALUES OF TIKI OASIS

Tiki Oasis is a family-run small business. Our core values are a reflection of who we are.

Tiki Oasis promotes equality, diversity and inclusion; we empower marginalized groups and encourage social justice through dialogue and action.

Tiki Oasis promotes education and the sharing of ideas and knowledge; we believe in historic preservation of American Pop Culture through the lens of modern day values.

Tiki Oasis promotes sustainable practices with a deep commitment to conservation and positive choices that support the health of our planet.
